"Reading should not be presented as a chore or duty. It should be offered as a precious gift." - Kate Dicamillo
Hello, again, Parents & Guardians! I've included some items on this page just for you. I am available for any questions or concerns you might have. My email is kimmega@anderson5.com or call the school and press 7.
Please remind your children to return their books on Library Day so they can check out more.
To encourage reading, praise their efforts, be a reading role model, and read-aloud or share read.
For reluctant readers, know that they just haven't found the right books that interest them. Keep searching!
Like most parents today, we worry about our kids when they are online. Could they be tricked into something bad? Are they getting cyberbullied? Are they getting TOO much screen time? If these are some of your thoughts, look at the resources offered here from MediaSmarts.
Read as a model and together with them (Yes, magazines, eBooks, and audiobooks and more count too!)
Some book suggestions for reading together are on the student page
Have you ever tried to remember a book but couldn't. Talpa may be helpful to you. With this resource you can look up a book with whatever you remember.
Online exploration is fun together.
Here are several suggested sites that make up the students' Virtual Makerspace. This is available all year (great for rainy summer days)!
Check out KidLit TV for book previews, read-aloud books, crafting activities, and more.
Our school library is awesome, but don't forget your public library! There are books and eBooks, videos, activities, and more. Best of all, it's free!
Anderson County Main webpage - check out what they have to offer
All you need is a library card.- use this page to know what you need to get a library card for yourself and your children
There are amazing kits to borrow from the Leap Station.- for example, they have a bird watching kit, magnatiles, and even a microscope! These can all be checked out for use.
Special upcoming event:
Our school is overjoyed to be co-hosting a Read-to-Friends event with the help of our Anderson County Library Main Branch and the Piedmont Therapy Dogs program. We will have furry guests the second week of December for students to read to and pet. We will have a special Christmas green screen set up to take pictures of Santa Paws with the students! Look for information to come home on how you can get your child's picture.
Please check the schedule to see when your child has library/guidance that week.
Curious about some ins and outs of our library? Look at this Infographic. It includes information about the 1st 9 weeks regarding the number of books checked out, what type of books are favorites, and more.
Interested in learning something new? We are hosting mini-workshops for our parents. We have covered "no cook" cooking like cookies that don't bake in the oven. Currently, we are working on creating holiday cards. Let's brainstorm some ideas!
I am looking for suggestions on what might make our next parent workshop interesting and fun. Please consider posting an idea on the Padlet below or you can email me (kim.mega@anderson5.com).
If you are interested in volunteering at the library, please let me know (or the PTO). There are lots of things to do for anyone that is interested. We love our volunteers!
