Preparing students, and later teachers, for the demands of their chosen professions has been a passionate pursuit of mine for over half of my lifetime. I secured a Masters' in Curriculum and Instruction as I strove to improve my own teaching.
I was an early adopter of technology in my classroom and swiftly moved into the role of Instructional Technologist, serving in that capacity for 14 years. The importance of leveraging technology in teaching and learning is a driving force in my career and led to my obtaining a Masters' degree in Educational Technology Leadership.
After moving from the K-12 environment to instructional design in online Higher Education, I find my focus shifting to breaking down the barriers between K-12 and higher education, taking what is best from both worlds and sprinkling that with effective, innovative technology integration and course design. That lead to my current academic endeavor, an EdD in Instructional System Design and Technology.
The natural evolution of my career has steered my Disseration focus towards the transition of K-12 educators into Higher Education faculty and how colleges and universities can support and leverage those faculty members most effectively.
I have often quoted a saying that roughly says " I don't belive words, I question actions, but I believe patterns." In 25+ years in education, I have become a firm believer in patterns. I look for them in data, in behavior, in success and failure. When we were offered an opportunity to discuss this in an assignment for my Qualitative Inquiry course, I jumped at it. I feel like this example from my course truly addresses how I feel about data, patterns, and research. I recognize that these ideas, biases, and concepts will impact my doctoral journey as part of my lived experiences.

PVAMU Academy for Collegiate Excellence and Student Success
My mother, Lettie Raab, developed, implmented, and led this pre-college program for PVAMU until her retirement. As her daughter I was an automatic volunteer. I managed the databases, went on recruiting tours, made videos, chaperoned events, and even sent some of my own students through the program. It was amazing.
