Immersive Landscape
Immersive Landscape Artist Statement
My process of creating this project begins by photographing flowers as they do their final cycle of blooming in the fall. I then use the images to create geometric visuals, combining fractal patterns to create a unique image. I took special care to use a color palette that resonated with me and incorporated my favorite colors, such as light green, pink, and blue. The images not only have vibrant color but also have texture from petals, stems, and leaves, adding visual interest to the composition. Continuing the theme of flowers, I created a large orchid made from cardboard and paper clay to be the centerpiece of the artwork. Adding a 3-dimensional element to the work brings it to life and allows the viewer to be immersed in the relaxing experience of the landscape. To tie the whole thing together, I added a soundtrack featuring frequency sounds designed to help the viewer unwind and enjoy the experience. This piece is deeply meaningful to me because I have had the opportunity to develop my skills as an artist, not only by using digital elements like Photoshop and Premiere Pro, but also through using a new medium: paper clay. This piece represents my hyper fixation on finding the beauty in life in a world that seems to be collapsing in front of us. This art piece represents hope and joy in a time of darkness.
As Light As Air
As Light As Air Artist Statement
My process of creating this project began by taking pictures of plants and flowers as they reached their final stage of blooming before winter came. The images used are there to represent change and a shift in reality as we all begin to prepare for a new season in the climate, as well as in our lives. I have always been intrigued by geometric and fractal patterns within my artwork, so I created a template of a kaleidoscope. I used fragments of my photographs to create the illusion of a kaleidoscope, and then I repeated the process to create 5 different geometric, visually intriguing images. When layered together, these images make up a moving kaleidoscope, paired with euphoric, ambient sounds, meant to evoke emotion as well as put the viewer in a trance, fully engulfed in the artwork. Childlike wonder has always been a theme in my artwork, and the kaleidoscope brings up nostalgia from my childhood. The obsessive curiosity of trying to understand how a toy could create such otherworldly visuals is what inspired the creation of this piece. The repetition and meticulous process are another aspect of my practice that I often gravitate towards, because I know that small actions repeated are what create great masterpieces in art, but are also the building blocks of our lives.
