January 14, 2023 - Killingly Robotics Team 78889M wins another Engineering Design Award and this time they traveled nearly half-way around to world to compete in Tokyo, Japan! Although there were several American teams and many other countries represented, Killingly High School was the ONLY Non-Japanese team to win an Award! The team was also named "best dressed" for their professional uniforms, which included a "limited edition" Japanese version! Check out the competition photos and video in our Google Photo Album.
3 teams from Killingly High School (78889K, 78889M, and 7889W) traveled to Tokyo, Japan from January 9 - 17, 2023 and competed at the American School in Japan (ASIJ) and also be experienced Japanese culture on an adventure of a lifetime! We visited Cyberdyne Studios robotic prosthetics where students controlled a robotic leg with their mind, the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Tokyo Skytree, Akihabara (Japan's electric city), Yamanashi Maglev train, the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the Science Museum of Map and Survey, the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Hamarikyu Gardens, and experience Karaoke, a traditional japanese tea ceremony, and Japanese cooking class!

October 6, 2022 - SPIROL International has become Killingly Robotics ELITE sponsor, whic means that SPIROL is our most supportive donor. With their generous gift, SPIROL will change the lives of many students by providing opportunities for travel, both domestically and internationally, as students develop real-world skills in engineering and collaboration. A special thank you to Jeff Koehl and everyone at the SPIROL Foundation for your generosity!
Killingly High School Robotics is a competitive robotics team that seeks to develop engineering skills, ...in our 3rd year and have already reached some amazing milestones, including the construction of 14 robots, competing with multiple robots in both Skills and Team events, and the approval of 3 new Robotics courses for high school students!
In their first season, Killingly Robotics competed in nine virtual competitions, WON the Engineering Design award at the Southern New England Regional Robotics Championships, AND went on to win the Engineering Design Award at the 2021 WORLD Robotics Championships! The team, consisting of only 2 of the original members, repeated their excellence by willing Engineering Design for a second year in a row at BOTH Southern New England Regionals and the 2022 World Robotics Championships!

Human control of the robot is one of the more exciting aspects of competitive robotics!
Students measure and cut metal to ensure the robot meets design spects and can function as intended.
Using Computer Aided Design (CAD), student design the robot based on the current challenge.
Programming the robot is key to making the robot perform all necessary functions.
At the heart of robotics is the ability for students to analyze the current challenge and design a robot to meet the goal.
Troubleshooting and repairing the robot is critical to the team's success.
Percision measurements and the use of a variety of hand and power tools is a critical aspect of skill development in robotics.
Drawing and Sketching allows the team to design the most effective robot.
Marketing is an essential skill that ensures the success of the entire team!
As a result of Covid-19, our team photo had to be taken virtually this year!
