🐝 OUR ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS 🐝
One of our most established and impactful projects is our Community Choir, which has been running for the past three years. Over this time, it has grown into a well-recognised and valued part of local community life.
The choir brings together people of different ages and backgrounds to sing, learn, and perform together. It regularly participates in community celebrations, charity events, and cultural initiatives across Kilkenny and beyond. These performances not only showcase musical talent but also create opportunities for connection, confidence-building, and belonging.
This initiative is about much more than music. It creates a welcoming space where people can feel included, supported, and part of something shared. For many participants, the choir offers a way to connect with others, improve wellbeing, and develop confidence through creative expression.
At a wider level, the choir strengthens community cohesion in Kilkenny by bringing people together across cultural and linguistic differences. It helps build understanding, celebrates diversity, and contributes to the cultural life of the region.
Older & Wiser is a community initiative creating welcoming spaces for older adults to connect, socialise and stay active. The project promotes wellbeing, inclusion and meaningful participation, helping people from different backgrounds build friendships and reduce isolation.
Our sustainable arts and crafts activities encourage creativity, wellbeing and cultural exchange while promoting the reuse of materials and traditional handcraft skills. Through workshops and community projects, participants can learn, share and develop a variety of creative techniques in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Activities include:
Macramé and decorative knotting
Stone painting and stone art
Embroidery and traditional needlework
Bead weaving and jewellery making
Upcycling and recycled crafts
Seasonal and cultural decorations
Handmade gifts and home décor
Community art projects
These activities provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn new skills, express their creativity, preserve cultural traditions and build meaningful connections within the community.
Since 2022, environmental responsibility has been an important part of our organisation's values and activities. KCCI actively promotes sustainability, environmental awareness and responsible community engagement through both educational initiatives and practical action.
We have proudly participated in Kilkenny County Council's Team Up to Clean Up programme every year since our activities began, helping to improve local environments and encourage community involvement in protecting shared public spaces.
Beyond organised clean-up events, we integrate sustainable practices into our everyday activities by promoting recycling, reuse, upcycling and environmentally conscious choices. Many of our arts and crafts workshops incorporate recycled or repurposed materials, encouraging participants to explore creativity while reducing waste.
Through community projects, workshops and awareness campaigns, we aim to inspire positive environmental habits and demonstrate that small actions, when taken collectively, can make a meaningful difference for our community and the environment.
Kilkenny Cultural Community Initiatives (KCCI) is a volunteer-led, non-profit organisation that relies on the generosity of community members, supporters and partners to continue its work.
