I just started working on Kik API to make my very own Kik bot. I need to figure out a way to know the chat id of the user to whom I'll send replies i.e. the user who is already subscribed to me and is sending me messages. This is the code that I'm using :

The admin of the chat hasn't been active since I joined, and I'm definitly the most active one so far, but it's not all bad. People come and go and there are a few that stay and comment every now and then.

It seems that adding group video chat is the thing right now. Yesterday our portfolio company Kik added group video chat to its popular mobile messenger and Facebook did the same with its Messenger application on the very same day.

My extended family, as well as just about everyone I know, uses Whatsapp to communicate. Until recently I had been pushing Google Duo as the new Facetime. Now that Whatsapp has video chat, I see no reason to use Duo. Also seems like a no-brainer that Whatsapp should have done long ago.

In short, not much. Kik's CEO Ted Livingston is confident that messaging is the future, and that "chat is the next once-a-decade platform." If it's around to stay - and it appear that it is - you can only wonder if the stigma associated with these apps is going to affect their longevity.

For one, the marketing potential is huge. Marketers can use messaging apps to contact potential and current customers by using chatbots - Facebook Messenger is already beginning to see success with this ability. Another future use for these messaging apps could be what Kik CEO Livingston calls the idea of the "chat platform" where users coan use messaging apps to do more everyday things like hailing an Uber or ordering flowers.

In August, Kik gave users the ability to follow and communicate with brands via Promoted Chats. Then in November, it enhanced that chat product by enabled brands to customize automated responses based on keywords in messages from fans.

These habits take time to shift, of course. To date, the industry has stuck with its fuzzy data point: Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat, Line and even Snapchat (internal data only) are among the many that convey their traction by listing how many people have opened their app at least one time per month.

Aside from increasing engagement among users and giving stickers away for free, Points could be an interesting monetization opportunity for Kik. Companies could pay to highlight their apps and content as incentivized actions, like the call to action to play Squared, or visiting a specific website. Kik could also charge to make branded content available for purchase with Points, which would work much like the branded stickers in chat apps like Line.

Messaging apps are at the heart of the mobile experience, the most frequently used application on almost every smartphone. To date most of these interactions have been peer to peer and text based, but messaging apps are becoming increasingly rich as new technologies like payments, virtual assistants, natural language interfaces and chat bots become commonplace.

Omegle, a random video chat site that began with the ideal of connecting strangers but one that's also long been accused of enabling sexual predators, has ceased operations, according to its founder, Leif K-Brooks.

Those crimes resulted in numerous claims against Omegle. In one high-profile case, a young woman sued the website in 2021, accusing it of matching her in a chat when she was 11 years old with a man who sexually exploited her.

The young woman identified as "A.M." sued Omegle two years ago, saying that in 2014, when she was 11, the chat service matched her with a man named Ryan Scott Fordyce, who was then in his late thirties.
