What I Learned from Kidney Donation

How it works, relections on living donation, and the growing community of  givers

Diane's Donor Journey

I am what's called a "non-directed" donor, giving a kidney to someone medical professionals chose for me because they were the best match and most in need, someone I did not know personally. Donating in this way can allow you to help multiple kidney recipients as I will explain below.  Being able to donate inveribly  means you are in a good place in life , exceptionally healthy and have the time and support to give someone a gift that can truly change their life.  Nomatter the outcome, and nothing is certain, living organ donation is something that many  altruistic donors see as a way to honor the abundance they feel in life, and show gratitude in the deepest way possible.

Why I Gave

My story, what I learned  about the many reasons to give, and why living donors statistically go on to live long healthy lives.

The Process, and Why Giving is Easier Than Ever (with no financial burden)

Programs like the National Kidney Registry offer travel/ lodging reimbursement, even lost wages compensation.

My Recovery Story

What the weeks after donation looked like for me, and what other donors shared about their recovery.

Hope, Joy, and Acceptance for Unexpected Outcomes

Not all kidney transplants take, nor last, but each one is a gift of hope.
