Visiting Hoi An was really a magical trip for me, as there I witnessed the yellow-washed walls, the glow of silk lanterns at dusk, and one of the main attractions for me as a foodie was the steam rising from a bowl of street-side noodles. Honestly, I never thought that I would find food that is so flavourful. The reason behind it is the soul that they add to the food, the freshness of the ingredients sourced from the morning markets, and the stories told over a shared meal.
On my last trip to Hoi An, Vietnam, I decided to go off the path and decided to explore the global flavours and how they are finding their home in this ancient town.
During my journey, I decided to explore the local markets in the morning, and that is when I found out that the flavours don’t just start from their kitchen; instead, they start at the Central Market at 06:00 AM. Watching chefs pick the vibrant herbs and spices is a masterclass in quality. They understand the importance of freshness, and that is non-negotiable. The craft of transforming chaos into quiet precision takes place in the kitchen. This is where the raw ingredients are turned into something that feels like home, no matter where you’re from.
Well, you know, being an indian and living in another country is not easy, and it becomes more difficult when you start missing the home-cooked food. My soul started craving the warmth of a spice-laden gravy and buttery naan, and that is when I started discovering some of the best Hoi An Indian Restaurant.
While doing my search, I stumbled upon a gem that is easily a top-rated restaurant in the area,i.e., Phirangg. When I first entered their restaurant, I completely fell in love with their ambience and the flavourful breeze that just took my breath away. They used the same “Market to Table” philosophy by sourcing local produce but staying fiercely loyal to traditional indian spices. Honestly, they know how to build a cultural bridge that shows authenticity is not about where a dish comes from, but how it is respected.
Well, I am a person who always needs to have a view with my food when I am travelling to other places, and that is when I started searching for some good Hoi An rooftop cafe to watch the town transforming into a sea of colourful lights. I still can not forget the time I spent watching the sunset; it was just mesmerising to witness the beautiful transition.
Vietnam is a place where I learned that food is my love language. From street vendors to high-end chefs, the dedication to crafting the dishes is palpable. So, if you are also visiting this beautiful town in Vietnam, do not forget to check out the amazing combination of indian food with international herbs at Phirangg, as this is what you want to experience once in your lifetime.
