Khyati Malik

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).

My research interests are at the intersection of environmental, energy, and agricultural economics with a focus on regional issues and policy.

Through my research, I explore innovative pathways for decarbonization. My research on the economic framework for soil carbon highlights significant untapped potential of utilizing land as a carbon sink to mitigate climate change. Additionally, my study on willingness to pay for public goods provides an exact closed-form expression for compensating variation (CV) and adds to the extensive literature on willingness to pay for public goods and local amenities. I also analyze the dynamics of global emission permit prices and regional carbon taxes, offering insights into policy tools for reducing carbon emissions. In another work, I have examined how remote work has increased the value of green spaces, underscoring the need for sustainable living environments. Through these studies, I aim to develop comprehensive solutions for a sustainable, low-carbon future.

I received my PhD from the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics (AEDE) at The Ohio State University in 2025.
