The group's inspiration derived from a will and desire, a passion to make a change for the better. Silence is compliance, and we do not want to live our lives complying with hatred. What is hatred really? It is ignorance expressed in many different ways, for many different reasons; such as fear, jealousy, envy, and being uncomfortable with what you do not know. You simply cannot live your life closing your eyes, covering your ears, opening your mouth, and expect to know someone's situation or who they are truthfully; not as black, white, gay, straight, tall, short, skinny, wide, believer, nonbeliever, and everything in between, rather as a living being. This is why we do not just feel inspired, compelled, or enthusiastic about everything that's happened, but because our life is yours, and your life is ours, we should treat it like so, like we have an obligation to treat the next person's life, the same as anyone else's!
The Groups Inspiration In Their Own Words -
Jackson: "To be inspired is an understatement, and it should be like this for everyone! I say this because this is deeper than being inspired or caring, deeper than the consideration or concern from people only part of the time, deeper than the thought of it being a minor or even major issue in life! These are people’s lives we are talking about, and some people just don't realize, because it's not them, because they do not know! I've said from day one of the creations of the group, I AM NOT GOING TO LIVE MY LIFE KNOWING IT IS AT THE COST OF OTHERS HAPPINESS, FREEDOM, WELL-BEING, AND IN SHORT... THEIR LIFE! That is why I am so determined and willing to do WHATEVER it takes to achieve full equality, justice, and life for all! Because truthfully, we're all the same, we just don't realize our differences."
Naquel: "To bring awareness to discrimination that is happening within our community!"
Paige: "It is hard to see so many people hurting in our community and our world. If there is anything that I can do to make a change I want to do that. Being a part of Key2Unity you get to learn about things going on and help others learn about things going on and that is important."
Asianah: "I have witnessed the pain and struggle not only in our nation, but our community as well. Witnessing oppression and discrimination due to skin color, religion, or sexuality. With my involvement and dedication in Key2Unity, I hope that we can create more equality and unity starting with our local community."
Mary: "This group is designed to give people a reminder that everyone is valued and equal. Here in Key2Unity, we strive to make an impact and bring awareness to everyone and show that everyone is important and that it is all right that everyone can be a part of things."
Haitham: "The hate and violence that is present in this world need to change and it needs to NOW. It has been prevalent far too long in society leading to a cycle of hate. If we continue to allow such discourse to run rampant in the world for future generations to endure it will never unite the people and we will never reach peace."
