Cansat (Satellite inside a Can)

A cansat is a small satellite inside a can which is used for different mission purposes. For the mission year 2018-2019, the competition asked us to develop a satellite equipped with autogyro to control decent and measure environmental parameters while decenting. The measured values was to be transmitted to the ground station in real-time while on decent and was plotted.

The following environmental parameters were measured:

  1. Air pressure

  2. Altitude

  3. Temperature

  4. GPS Position

  5. Payload battery voltage

  6. Pitch and Roll

  7. Autogyro spin rate

Our design

The picture shows our design of the satellite. The rotor blades are not powered by any motor, they automatically rotate like a falling maple seed. The measurement and communication modules were kept inside a can and was fully enclosed.

The payload electronics had all the necessary sensor subsystems for measuring all the parameters. The electronics were mounted on a circular pcb for balance of the satellite.
