In 1995, I wrote and submitted a spec script for season 1 of Star Trek Voyager entitled Sacred Grounds. Alas, I don't think I even got a rejection letter for it.
STAR TREK : VOYAGER
Spec Script Synopsis
“Sacred Grounds”
The Voyager cuts through an empty sector of space between two civilizations. Neelix informs them that a religious society, the Marulks, revere this area as holy ground, but will take no offense at Voyager’s passing through. For no apparent reason, Lt. Tuvoc and Kess become affected by a neurological dysfunction which makes them incomprehensible to others. Captain Janeway puts them in sick bay for observation. Meanwhile, Ensign Kym and Ensign Taurus research ways to eliminate less important programs in order to extend the energy life of the ship. Captain Janeway argues to keep some of these “Luxury” programs in place but gives the okay for a ship overhaul. The Holodoctor isolates the Synaptic failures to be a result of long wave radiation coming from the Binary star of the sector; this perhaps explains why Marulk ship crews have either plunged into their “God” or returned to Marulk space as madmen Just as Janeway gives the order to turn the ship around, a large solar flare erupts from the surface of the star and the rest of the crew experience synaptic failure. The Emergency Holodoctor is faced with the problem of turning the ship around before it gets caught within the star’s gravitational pull. To make matters worse, Kym’s overhaul has temporarily shut down some of the ship’s systems and the Computer will not recognize the Holodoctor as a crew member with authority to alter the ship’s heading. The Holodoctor’s only hope is to jury rig a radiation inhibitor to block the harmful rays of the star. Unfortunately, those in sickbay are too far gone for the inhibitor to be effective. Somehow the Doctor must get out of the Sick Bay and use the device on an early stage crew member.
Only the Doctor can save the Voyager and her crew!
