Helen Aguirre
Helen is a senior at UC Davis majoring in Economics and pursuing a Statistics minor. She currently work as a Social Media Student Assistant at the Global Migration Center, contributing to communications and information management. Her academic interests are still developing, and she enjoys exploring topics such as development economics, urban economics, and finance. She is beginning an honors thesis to help refine these interests and plan to consider graduate study in applied economics.
Lynn Choi
Lynn is a senior at the University of California, Davis, majoring in Economics with a minor in Statistics. Her academic focus lies in public policy economics, particularly within the domains of labor, crime, gender, and family. As a first-generation immigrant from South Korea, Lynn is deeply motivated by a commitment to understanding and addressing the heterogeneous ways individuals interact with the labor market. Lynn is eager to explore empirical economic research in public policy further to deepen her analytical skills and prepare for future graduate studies and independent research. She recently represented UC Davis in the College Fed Challenge and is currently working on an honors thesis examining the effects of policy changes on labor force participation behavior among the aging population.
Joseph Dalessi
Joseph is a senior majoring in economics and mathematics at UC Davis. After transferring from Folsom Lake College to Davis, Joseph developed a much stronger interest in economics after getting the opportunity to take fun classes like econometrics and labor econ. He’s particularly passionate about service and community engagement, and his work experience in food security, food sustainability, and green energy has motivated him to pursue research applying economics to these areas. Joseph is exploring the idea of graduate education in economics in the hopes of being able to help solve issues like these! Outside of academics, he also enjoys recreational math and puzzles.
Anika Karody
Anika is a senior at UC Davis pursuing a bachelor's degree in economics. She is actively seeking jobs and research opportunities within economics, although related fields such as business and finance also align with her current skill set. Her interests include behavioral and development economics. She is considering graduate school or working with NGOs after graduating.
Michelle Ko, MD, PhD
Michelle is a faculty member in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of California, Davis. She is deeply committed to advancing our understanding of how social structure, healthcare systems, and policy contribute to disparities in health and healthcare. She also has a long commitment to educational efforts that invest in a health professional and policy workforce dedicated advancing health equity. She is currently engaged in multiple projects, from the role structural racism and aging, diversity equity and inclusion in the health professions, and access to care for low-income populations, from first generation college students to agricultural communities in central California, to rural Black communities in the US South. Her past research includes examining relationships between social inequality and stability of healthcare safety net systems, Medicaid long-term services and supports.
