CLAIRE'S CHRONICLES
CLAIRE'S CHRONICLES
Claire's Chronicles was a story-driven solitaire mobile game developed at Wooga.
Set in a coastal US village during the 1940s, novelist Claire Heart investigates to find out the truth about her late husband's death.
From the time I joined the project, I was the responsible rigger for the 3D characters, rigging over 20 characters in total, including facial expressions based on the Facial Action Coding System and the ARKit Face Blendshapes. For each character, I sculpted the movement and contraction of 44 muscles of the face, as well as corrective shapekeys for proper deformation of shoulders and elbows. The rigging process also included the painting of vertex colors for controlling the rim light of our character shader. Lastly, I imported and tested the characters in Unity.
In addition to my character rigging work, I developed Python tools for our animators. The biggest project in this regard was the setup of a motion capture pipeline fitted to our character rig, for which I developed a specialized motion capture retargeting tool in Python for Blender.
"I had the pleasure of working with Kevin during his internship on our tech animation team, and he was a fantastic addition from day one. He came in to help free up my time, but quickly proved he could take ownership of tasks and bring real value on his own.
Kevin works independently, communicates clearly, and consistently looks for ways to improve things. He spent time with our animators to understand their needs and built tools and workflows that had a massive impact on their productivity. He doesn't wait to be told what to do—he identifies problems and finds smart, practical solutions.
One of his biggest contributions was kickstarting a motion capture workflow for the team—something we hadn’t done before. He took the lead on researching, building, and implementing it, and the result was a well-structured, dependable pipeline that fit seamlessly into our production environment.
Kevin is sharp, motivated, and easy to collaborate with. He’d be a great asset to any team."
