Cecily Price has lived through more in her three-and-twenty years than most do in a lifetime. She watched her mother die,  sailed to the colonies under a contract of indenture, and witnessed the gruesome murder of her employer, all before the age of twelve. Now a young woman, Cecily wants to be allowed to live a quiet, peaceful life of predictability.  The rumblings of rebellion are growing too loud to ignore for long, however, and when Cecily's childhood friend returns to Taunton full of patriotic fervor, she will need to chose which side of the coming conflict she falls on.
