The Kent Singers, founded by Jon Lafleur, first performed in December 1973 before an audience in Kent, CT. This amateur chorus has maintained a high standard of excellence in the performance of the classical choral repertoire. The group continues to evolve and refine its sound, performing works large and small, accompanied and a cappella, exploring the rich tradition of early music, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and modern music.
The Kent Singers typically perform three concerts per season: in December and early spring to sold-out audiences in Kent, CT, and a “Summer Great Works” concert in June, with renowned professional soloists and orchestral players, in New Milford, CT. Highlights of the "Great Works" series have included the Fauré Requiem in a joint concert with the Sherman Chamber Ensemble, Haydn's The Creation, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, the Mozart Requiem, and, most recently, Bach’s St. John Passion, with period instruments.
The Kent Singers' vision is to foster and sustain interest, appreciation and excitement for quality choral performance, for the enrichment of the community.
Our mission is to bring singers together to learn challenging music and grow individually and as an ensemble, while making the experience of high-quality live performances accessible to the community.
