Information for potential applicants
Potential applicants interested in studying at Nagoya University under my supervision should follow the following guidance.
(1) Master’s Application
It is not mandatory for you to contact me prior to your application to the program. If you wish to get in touch with me, please write down your research plan in several sentences in the body of your email. My supervision interest lies in International Security and Conflict/Peacebuilding studies in the broad sense.
(2) Non-degree Research Student Application
In principle, I do not supervise non-degree research students (except for those who have secured scholarship to enter the degree program).
(3) PhD Application
You should contact me via email before you apply to the PhD program. In the body of your email, please write down the topic of your proposed research (in several sentences), the reason you want to do your research under my supervision, and your long-term career plan.
In addition, you should attach the following files (either in PDF or Word format): (1) your CV including your nationality, linguistic skills (including English language test scores for non-native speakers of English), methodology skills, and any methodology courses you have attended (both quantitative and qualitative methodologies of political/social science); (2) your undergraduate and master’s transcripts; (3) your master’s dissertation and any other relevant academic works you have conducted (if your master's dissertation is not English or Japanese, please submit an academic writing sample in English); (4) your research proposal (a couple of thousand words including references).
It is strongly recommended that you apply to our PhD program only after receiving explicit encouragement from me to do so.
