This year I wanted to go all out and provide the students with a very special and professionally run event. I elected to reach out to Melissa Dark, the founder of Teach Cyber, who put me in contact with Mr. David Raymond (Director of the Virginia Cyber Range). Mr. Raymond exposed me to the world of Capture-the-Flag. When I told him that this was for a SkillsUSA Cybersecurity contest, he was quite interested as he recently spoke with the SkillsUSA national contest chair.
Mr. Raymond and his team at the Virginia Cyber Range developed a unique contest to which they had never implemented before, especially with the introduction of a Windows and Linux image in addition to the typical Capture-the-Flag modules consistent with the college competitions.
Last year, I ordered some pre-configured images (linux, Windows 11 and Server 202x). All of the images had failures and was a big disappointment. This new platform is so much better and I will use it as part of my cyber program.
