These "sister" courses offer an introduction to mathematical optimization modeling applied to diverse problems in planning and operating energy systems, in particular energy systems with a high share of variable (weather-dependent) wind and solar generation. The course covers linear, nonlinear, and mixed-integer optimization, as well as game theory in the context of multi-actor decision problems.

Optimization Problems in Energy Systems [KU Leuven - H0P08A] (2020-2021, 2021-2022)

The aim of the course is to introduce a number of different optimization problems as typically encountered in energy systems & markets. The course will provide the mathematical formulation of the different types of problems, their implementation in general purpose programming languages (here: Julia/JuMP), approximation and relaxation techniques for computational performance.
