As an OT student, I have dedicated the last 4 years to working hard and prioritizing my education.
Professional Development Goals:
Throughout the program, I have created goals with my faculty mentor to help motivate myself and stay on the correct path.
Goal #1: Work hard in my studies to grow my knowledge so I can provide the best care to my future clients.
Goal #2: Participate at least 1 time in each of my classes to promote active participation and enhance my learning experience.
Goal #3: Be an active member of group projects so that I can transfer those skills to my future practice when I work in a team with other professionals.
Goal #4: Be an active member in the Student Occupational Therapy Organization (SOTA) to stay involved in the OT community.
Goal #5: Stay up to date on all of my coursework, including readings and assignments, so I can continue to grow in my knowledge of the OT profession as I progress through school.
In addition to demonstrating professional development, it is also important to focus on personal well-being. Therefore, my faculty mentor has guided me in creating goals focused on my well-being so I can continue to do my best academically.
Personal Well-Being Statement: As an OT student, it is important to me to maintain a healthy balance between academics and personal well-being. I believe that having occupational balance can help me keep a positive mindset and support my success in the Duquesne OT program.
Goal #1: Choose one day of the week to set aside time for rest and relaxation.
Goal #2: Practice meditation and yoga once a week to reduce stress when the semester gets busy.
My Year 5 Career Readiness Goals
Goal #1: By the end of my level II fieldwork experiences, I will demonstrate the ability to complete proper documentation independently. I will do this by consistently seeking feedback from my fieldwork educator and incorporating it into my documentation weekly.
Goal #2: By the end of my level II fieldwork experiences, I will have increased skills and confidence in planning and implementing treatments, demonstrating adequate clinical reasoning skills.
After Graduation:
After I graduate, my goal is to successfully pass the NBCOT exam and obtain licensure as an occupational therapist. I hope to begin a career that allows me to continue to develop my strong clinical reasoning and client-centered care skills.
Long-Term Career Goal:
Throughout my career as an occupational therapist, I hope to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the individuals I serve. In particular, I aspire to enhance accessibility and participation within inclusive postsecondary education settings by developing supportive programs and resources for students. I also aim to advocate for increased inclusive opportunities and equitable access for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), promoting their success, independence, and engagement in their communities.
I created this well-being infographic in my Clinical Reasoning II course. These goals and action steps will help me maintain occupational balance during my fieldwork experiences so I can optimize my performance, support my well-being, and provide the highest quality care to my clients.
