Kelsey Donald, RP (Registered Psychotherapist)
Kelsey Donald Counselling & Coaching was founded by Kelsey Donald, a Registered Psychotherapist with 8 years of experience providing mental health support in a variety of settings, including family services, Youth Hubs Ontario, and private practice.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with more than 500 clients, each with their own experiences, challenges, strengths, and goals. These experiences have given me the opportunity to support people through a wide range of concerns and have reinforced one thing for me: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy or coaching.
My approach to both counselling and coaching is collaborative. You know yourself and your life better than anyone, and my role is to bring my knowledge and experience alongside yours to help you identify your strengths, understand what may be getting in your way, and figure out what needs to change so you can move forward.
I believe in being both your cheerleader and your gentle challenger. I’ll celebrate your wins, remind you of the progress you’re making, and root for you along the way — but I’ll also gently push you when I notice patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
I also believe that the relationship we build matters. I want you to feel comfortable being yourself when you’re with me. I’m not a blank slate sitting across from you, nodding and taking notes. I’m going to be authentically myself, which means we’ll probably laugh together, you don’t need to worry about censoring yourself or watching your language, and there is room for all of your emotions — even the messy ones.
I value both your time and your investment in yourself, which is why I want you to feel ready to actively participate in the process.
Whether we’re working together in counselling or coaching, I believe meaningful change comes from more than simply showing up for an hour and then forgetting about it until next week. When appropriate, I’ll encourage you to practice strategies, reflect on what we’ve discussed, try something differently, or complete activities between sessions.
That doesn’t mean you need to have everything figured out or be “perfect” at doing the work. It means we’re both showing up and putting in the effort to help you move toward where you want to be.
When I’m not in the therapy or coaching room, you’ll usually find me doing something that involves family, my dogs or chickens, the outdoors, golfing, or working on one of our million projects we have on the go at our house or our rentals.
I also love creating a more simple, self-sufficient lifestyle — making food from scratch, growing what we can, and experimenting with homemade and natural remedies. Basically, if I can grow it, make it, renovate it, bake it, or turn it into a project… there’s a pretty good chance I’m going to try!
I think those parts of my life are important because they reflect a lot of what I value in my work, too: being authentic, staying grounded, connecting with what matters, and creating a life that actually feels like your own.
