Background

Kelly V. Meade is a teacher at David Starr Jordan High School in Long Beach, Ca. She teaches students to empower their growth mindset in her Medical Chemistry and Epidemiology & Public Health courses. Kelly is the former director of the California Partnership Academy, Aspirations in Medical Services (AIMS) Academy, where she provides students with a combination of rigorous academics and career technical education through work-based learning. Kelly also supports the technology department on her school campus as a Chromebook and iPad Coordinator. She has been the director, for her school, of the District Science Fair for the past 7 years. In Kelly’s spare time she is working closely with her International Honorary Organization for Woman Educations, Alpha Delta Kappa – Zeta Chapter or she is outside climbing a mountain, backcountry hiking, snowboarding (when the seasons right), or paddle boarding. Her other extracurricular activities include working with the California Department of Education’s Environmental Literacy Task Force and Steering Committee as well as writing curriculum with the University of California Curriculum Institutes. Internationally, Kelly has worked alongside the Peace Corps volunteers in Uganda at the Kabwohe Clinical Research Center to teach Life Skills and Health Education. She has also volunteered with Angel City Choral in South Africa and the United Kingdom to promote music education. Her highest mountain climbed so far is Kilimanjaro on the Arrow Glacier Route and she is motivated to go higher.
