Attendance & Participation

Attendance & Participation Policy

  • Attendance is mandatory and contributes to your final course grade. You are expected to attend Zoom class meetings and be on time. Late arrival to class is disruptive to the learning experience of your classmates.

  • Class attendance will be taken within the first 5 minutes of class and again in the middle of class.

  • Students are allowed 2 free absences.

  • Participation will be graded on students’ contributions to breakout room discussions, zoom poll participation, and engagement in distraction-free class attendance (no driving, phones, open browsers, or other distractions).

  • Absences will lower your attendance grade by 1⁄2 a letter grade for each class you miss. (See University-approved excused absences; you will need to provide appropriate documentation if you miss class for any of these reasons).

  • If you need to miss class due to a university-approved absence, you must email me in advance. Students who are absent more than 9 days will receive an automatic F for attendance.

  • Online Engagement. Consistent and regular engagement with ALL online materials is mandatory and contributes to your final course grade. You are expected to watch, read, or listen to all content posted in BeachBoard, including (but not limited to) posted readings and lecture videos. Practice & Assessments modules are not included in online engagement scores, as those assignments receive a separate grade. Students who engage with less than 60% of the content on BeachBoard will be receive an ‘F’ for this component of the final course grade. Online engagement is assessed at the middle and end of the term.
