I was given the task of designing a 450sqft loft.
Client Brief:
My client has requested a simple, traditionally-styled loft featuring a dark color palette. She envisions a separate bedroom and a high-end kitchen, all while accommodating her two cats. To cater to this, I plan to incorporate a cat tower balcony where her cats can climb and enjoy the view. Additionally, she prefers her apartment to face south, maximizing natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows.
A key challenge in designing this space lies in creating a high-end kitchen within the limited area of 450 square feet. This is compounded by the need to allocate space for walls to define the bathroom and bedroom. To address this, I propose keeping the kitchen area open and integrating concealed storage solutions. This approach will enhance the kitchen's functionality while creating an impression of spaciousness.
Cara Bevington's client project involved transforming a bare apartment shell into a beautifully designed living space. We handled everything—from constructing walls to selecting furniture, fixtures, and décor details—ensuring the apartment felt cohesive and inviting. To personalize the space, we incorporated sentimental pieces that added warmth and meaningful connections for the client. The final design not only reflects functionality but also captures a sense of emotional significance and individuality.
For the materials and finishes project, we were provided with a detailed floor plan of a room and a list specifying the types of furniture required. Our task involved selecting the furniture pieces and deciding on the materials and finishes to be used for each item. This allowed us to create a cohesive design that balanced aesthetics and functionality, while carefully considering the textures, colors, and durability of the chosen materials.
