Virtual Badge in a Box:
Brownie Pets Badge
Recommend this to be 1 meeting and 1 field trip to a pet store
Recommend this to be 1 meeting and 1 field trip to a pet store
Any Choice:
For part one of the badge, have your girls play Pet Bingo! This can be done in person at a pet store, veterinarians office, or online! Print a Bingo board for each girl and have them answer the questions at the bottom to learn more.
Choice 3: Make a cozy sleeping space for a pet:
Learn about where pets prefer to sleep! I recommend you chose a dog for this but your girls are welcome to pick their own pet to research! On the left is a video to learn about finding the perfect size bed for your dog! On the right is a link to 10 DIY dog beds your girls can make to fulfill this requirement.
Tips from a real Girl Scout: You can watch the video as part of a troop meeting and then have your girls look at beds during their visit to the pet store. Staff at the pet store can also talk to the girls about what different animals need to be comfortable, so just ask!
Contact a rescue or animal shelter and see if they will take a donation of pet beds. Any girls who don't have pets at home can make beds to donate! This is a great activity to do at adult/girl sleepover.
Choice 3: Find out how to be responsible when taking a pet outdoors:
For step three you can use my website and brochure!
Tips from a real Girl Scout: During your troop meeting, go over the different sections with your girls and discuss! If they have access to their own devices you can break them into groups, have them review a section, and then present to the troop what they learned. This will make it more interactive!
Choice 2: Make a simple pet toy:
For step four you can use the link on the left to learn how to learn how to make dog toys using jeans.
Tips from a real Girl Scout: But, an even better idea is to contact your local animal shelter or vet and ask them what kind of toys they could use! That way the finished toys can go to pets who will get to enjoy them. If your girls really enjoy making them you can make extras and donate them.
Choice 3: Make a pet budget for two pets:
Print the chart to the left, help your girls find items online or at a pet store for the list and use a calculator to find the total cost per month. Are they surprised by the cost of their animals each month?
Tips from a real Girl Scout: I recommend you use a dog as one of your animals! This can be done during the pet store visit as a scavenger hunt with an adult helping or using the internet at a meeting.
