As soon as we stepped foot out of school, we noticed just how much litter could be seen. Our children feel embarrassed and upset that people do not seem to look after the area in which they live. It was shocking to note that many recyclable, non-biodegradable products had been left all over the streets. The problem could so easily be solved if people choose to put their rubbish into bins rather than throwing it on the pavement.
We found some bins which were tipped over in the middle of the street, blocking roads and spilling rubbish on to the paths. The local council have promised to secure these bins to the walls in the past but this has not happened, resulting in bins being stolen and litter being strewn around the area.
Whilst we were walking around the area near our school, we found smashed glass in the back lanes. We were unable to continue walking here, in case anyone got hurt. Children could easily injure themselves on this glass when walking home from school. People need to think carefully about the damage that could be caused by smashing bottles on the ground.
There used to be more bins around our school and near the local park. However, the council removed these bins, as they were repeatedly set on fire. We would benefit from more bins in order to reduce the litter in the area. Could the council invest in more security cameras to deter criminal activity, rather than removing the bins we desperately need?
We were astounded to find so much litter right next to bins which have been provided from the council. There really is no excuse for dropping litter right next to a bin. This inconsiderate behaviour is harmful to our environment and local wildlife. Please dispose of your rubbish in the designated areas and make sure that your bin bags are securely tied.
Bins with a blue lid should be used for recyclable waste. For example, plastic, cardboard, glass and tins. It is very important to recycle and reuse. A huge amount of plastic is polluting our oceans and killing animals in our oceans when it could have been recycled for other products.
Bins with a black lid should be used for all other domestic waste such as left-over food and non-recyclable products.
If you have larger items to be disposed of, take them to your local recycling centre or a skip. It is extremely dangerous to leave large pieces of glass on the pavement and unsightly to leave furniture and other household items all over our streets.
All around the fence, which surrounds our school, rubbish can be found in trees and hedgerows. This is not only damaging to the wildlife but it puts our children at risk of injury and picking up illnesses. Please be more respectful of your local area.
