Student Self-Assessment

“The best way to assess student speaking activities is not to assess student speaking activities. Because as soon as you assess their speaking it becomes something else, immediately adds pressure and needs to have criteria for assessment. Therefore, if you must assess use self-assessment.” Phillip Kerr, Time for Speaking, YouTube

We decided to use self-assessment for this program. I am not sure that we are able to accurately provide individual assessment by walking around the class listening to students speak in groups. We have created a Google Form for each student to complete for themselves.

We have created a lesson plan for you to use in the first or second 'Keep Talking' lesson of the year to facilitate the completion of the Self-Assessment questionnaire. Students are to complete a Self-assessment Google Form at the beginning of the year, and the End of Year Self-Assessment Google Form , in the last lesson of the school year. Please make a copy of the Student Self-Assessment Google Form and adapt it for your school

You will need to report to the ministry later in the year, on your students' feedback.

(If you don't know how to adapt a Google form watch Adele Raimer's Digitally Yours YouTube explanation video below.)
