I’m interested in environmental water quality. I have studied the Illinois River floodplain, the Gambia River in west Africa, and the Rio Paraná in Brazil.
I'm also interested in solid state chemistry for materials applications. My current research involves the preparation of iron nanoparticles for environmental remediation. Prior projects have included cobalt vanadates for lithium ion batteries and the self-assembly of gold nanorods.

I’m also the chemist on site for The Therkildsen Field Station at Emiquon, monitoring water quality for one of the largest freshwater restoration projects in the US.
