The Veteran Advisors Committee is a Kansas City based, lived experience driven group of veterans working to strengthen how our community supports those who have served.
We recognize that Kansas City has a strong network of providers, partners, and systems committed to serving veterans. At the same time, gaps still exist, especially for those navigating housing instability, behavioral health challenges, employment barriers, and system coordination. The Veteran Advisors Committee exists to ensure that these gaps are identified and addressed through direct input from veterans themselves.
Rooted in the same values as LeaKC, this committee centers real experiences as a critical form of expertise. We work alongside providers, agencies, and community partners to offer insight that is practical, solution-focused, and grounded in dignity.
Our role is not to criticize systems, but to strengthen them. By elevating veteran voices, we aim to improve accessibility, coordination, and outcomes across Kansas City’s veteran-serving landscape.
To elevate the voices of veterans with lived experience in Kansas City in order to inform, improve, and strengthen systems of care, ensuring services are accessible, effective, and grounded in dignity and respect.
We envision a Kansas City where every veteran is seen, heard, and supported—where systems are responsive, barriers are reduced, and no veteran falls through the gaps.
Through collaboration, accountability, and lived experience leadership, we strive to build a community where support is not only available, but truly works for those it is intended to serve.
