Changes to SLS as of 8 December : Launch of Release 16
Reminders to Teachers on the use of SLS for HBL
Stagger timings for students (e.g. by level, class) to access SLS-based activities for a better user experience. To ensure a smooth login process for all students in the cohort and to avoid a “traffic jam” on SLS, teachers should set the full range of timings within each block to start SLS assignments, i.e. instead of having students log in at 8am, set a login time that is not on the hour, e.g. 8.15am.
Space out the release of SLS assignments. Teachers should make use of the Assignment Schedule function to spread out the assignment release dates during HBL and avoid releasing assignments for the week all at once.
Give students at least a full day to complete their SLS assignments, so that they do not rush to complete the assignments within a short duration. This will help to prevent any spikes in usage that could impact system performance.
Share the direct URL of the assignment with students. Providing the direct URL link to the assignment via other communication channels will allow students to bypass the dashboard and access the assignment more quickly.
Teachers can utilise lesson resources in the MOE Library and shared lessons by fellow teachers in the Community Gallery. An e-catalogue of the SLS Community Gallery lessons can be found at go.gov.sg/slscglessons.
Feedback
Should you encounter any issues with the system, please remember to log a ticket via the SLS helpdesk (helpdesk@sls.ufinity.com) and provide the assignment URL. Details such as screenshots, user account ID, device and browser information will also help our helpdesk colleagues to better address your issue.
Dear HOD ICTs and SLS Admins,
The Singapore Student Learning Space (SLS) will soon be launching an “Avatar” feature so that users will be able to personalise their SLS profiles. We are organising an SLS Avatar Competition to allow our students to design the avatar choices for this feature.
2. The competition is open to students with an SLS account in MOE schools and we will accept entries from 4 Oct to 26 Nov 2021.
3. To facilitate the conduct of this competition, we have designed an SLS Avatar Competition Lesson (https://go.gov.sg/slsavatar2021) published in MOE Library. Detailed instructions such as judging criteria, templates and FAQs for the competition are provided in the lesson.
4. There will be 3 categories i.e. (i) Primary 1 - Primary 4; (ii) Primary 5 - Secondary 2 and (iii) Secondary 3 - JCs/CI. The top 8 winners in each category stand to win gift vouchers of up to $200. All winning entries will also be used as avatar choices for all SLS users from Release 17 (Jun 2022). The winning contributors’ names and schools will be credited in SLS.
5. We appreciate your help to publicise the competition to all teachers and students in your school, such as during assembly or Form Teacher time, and have attached a competition poster that you may share with them. The competition has been scheduled to align with the post-exam period in schools and can be used as a fun activity for your students. Teachers can consider assigning the SLS Avatar Competition Lesson to students and allow them to complete the lesson during class time.
6. We look forward to receiving your entries! Thank you.
