On January 10th, 2023 our KCHS band went to the inauguration ceremony and played for our new Navajo nation president. At the inauguration our band played as the main entertainment.
Band is the best place to meet new people and to create fun memories with new friends. Being part of the band is like having another family. In the band the upperclassmen won't let you feel left out.
The songs they had played were Pacifica, Torrents of Fire, and Waltz No. 2 from last year's concert band and Crazy Things Called Love from this year’s marching band.
“The best way I can explain my experience with a band is that it's a love/hate relationship. I love it for many reasons such as the football games & the energy they give off, making music with others, ACTUALLY having a good show that everyone obviously likes including the band.”

Lions Park ROTC End of Year
Story by: Alana Sanders
On Apr 26, 2023 JROTC will be going to Lions Park, located in Kirtland NM. The battalion will be walking to the park for an adventure ribbon. For some who don’t know what a “ribbon” is in ROTC; it’s a small award that is earned from doing certain things; and you wear it every uniform day with your uniform. To earn the adventure ribbon, you must do a certain activity that the head “chief” said to do. Here at KCHS, head ChiefPedro LarribasPedro Larribas, Has said to earn the adventure ribbon, you must walk to and from Lions Park. For those who want to “give up” there will also be a trailer following the battalion that is walking. Many of the new battalion members are excited to walk to the park because of some of the activities that they will be doing there. Some of the activities they have planned to do are an Easter egg hunt, bbq lunch, fishing etc. There were about 60 people who went to the park. While leaving that morning; on the way, there were about 3 people who decided to get on the trailer. Around 9:30 they arrived at the park. While first getting to the park some of the cadets decided to play “tag” although they had just got done with a long walk. For the easter egg hunt, there were about 400 eggs that were provided by the senior class; there were also 6 “golden eggs,” in these eggs, there was money; some with 20, 45, or even 60! While doing the egg hunt, there was one golden egg left, many of the cadets gave up on finding the egg because it was too hard. Many of the cadets went around asking for hints, one of the hints was that the egg was “on the move.” About 30 minutes later, someone finally, Alana S, Georgia R, and Phallen C. Finally around 12, they started to give out awards to the seniors; the awards included “Cadet of the year.” Around 1 pm, they started to pack and clean up. They had finally left the park around 1:30, and got back around 2:30. We also asked one of the students what they thought about walking back a fourth, Georgia R said “ I think it felt like it took forever walking to the park, but on the way back it felt “fast”; overall, if I were to rate it I would rate it a 7/10 because of the heat and distance.” In the end, there were about 55 cadets who earned their adventure ribbon.

Chess- February 8, 2023
BPA- February 23, 2023
And if you're wondering what chess is? Chess is one of the oldest and most popular board games. It is played by two opponents on a checkerboard with specially designed pieces of contrasting colors, commonly white and black. The objective of the game is to capture the opponent's king. We personally don't get it but our classmates think it's easy and simple. And if you're wondering what BPA is, It is a program where you can learn many things, meet new people, and learn about business providing the tools, skills and experiences students need to compete, and succeed in the future.
