The Kansas Babe Ruth Baseball/Softball program, using regulation competitive baseball and softball rules, teaches skills, mental and physical development, a respect for the rules of the game, and basic ideals of sportsmanship and fair play. In all aspects, Babe Ruth League, Inc. is committed to providing our participants the very best educational, sports experience possible. It is our fundamental belief that every child with a desire to play baseball or softball be afforded that opportunity.
At Kansas Babe Ruth Leagues, the player comes first.
Babe Ruth League, Inc. (BRL) is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to developing better citizens by providing properly supervised baseball and softball competition for players 4 through 19 years of age. Established in 1951 and incorporated just one year later, there are now over 50,000 teams competing in over 10,000 leagues in the United States and Canada. In addition, BRL, Inc., collaborates to showcase global play in the post-season.
The primary reason for the success of the organization is in its mindful and modest adaptation of the Official Baseball Rules. The rules and regulations have been established through a democratic process with the guidance of professional recreation directors, high school athletic authorities and college coaches.
The foundation of the BRL organization is the 13-15 Division of Babe Ruth Baseball played on a regulation baseball diamond. Selection of this age grouping on the regulation size infield was originally founded to meet the unmet need identified by amateur baseball authorities and community leaders.
In 1966, the Babe Ruth 16-18 Division was founded in a testament of more players wishing to continue playing organized baseball, as well as community volunteers ready to provide them with similar adult-supervised competition. With focus on the interest and ability of transitioning players. Babe Ruth League has initiated separate age divisions since then to the point that there are now tournament trail competition for seven age divisions: (10-year-olds, 12(60), 12(70), 13-year-olds, 14-year-olds, 13-15 and 16-18).
It is the basic intent of Babe Ruth League, Inc. that every candidate be given the opportunity to play in the program within the rules and regulations as established by Babe Ruth League, Inc. Each league should advertise registrations, conduct tryouts and draft players. Teams should not be permitted to recruit their own players.
Kansas Babe Ruth Leagues, Inc. has been serving the Kansas communities since 1954. Currently in Kansas, there are around 500 teams playing in over 50 leagues. Kansas is one of eight states that form the Midwest Plains Region-the others being Colorado, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota and Midwest Plains Region also includes Canada.
