There were two family camps that operated on Big Blue. The first was a facility called the 248 Club, or the Blue Lake Hotel. It was built in 1903 on the north side of the lake by the Blue Lake Rod and Gun Club, at the height of the resort boom in Blue Lake Township. It operated throughout the 10s and 20s, and by the mid 1920s when camps were developed on Lake Big Blue, it was acquired by the scouts and made into a family camp. The specifics of this camp is even less known. We know that the building appeared on maps as late as 1948, and was operating into the 1950s though in a very limited capacity. By 1955, it was torn down, and the scouts sold the land shortly after. According to Art Michaelson, a ranger who worked at camp in the late 40s and 50s, the land was traded to the county for the land Diamond-O ranch is on now. Nowadays, the hill it was located is next to the Dremo boat launch, and you can still see some of the pylons that the hotel stood on, and the flattened area if you take a small path through the woods.
