Kayla's Kits

for foster kids

THE MISSION

Assist with children's transition into foster care by providing new foster children with something they can call their own.

WHY IT MATTERS

When children are taken into foster care, they rarely are allowed to take anything with them. All of their belongings, whether it is a picture frame or a stuffed animal, are considered 'contaminated' and must be left behind. Children are taken into the foster care system so quickly that foster parents do not have time to prepare for the children's arrival.

WHAT WE DO

We provide Kayla's Kits to Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) offices for distribution to children who enter foster care. Kayla's Kits are canvas bags filled with everything children need during the difficult transition as well as items that provide comfort. Each Kayla's Kits contain gender and age specific hygiene items, school supplies, books, journals, activities, toys, and a stuffed animal.

Our Impact

Since 2009, we have made 2,968 Kayla's Kits for Northeast GA.

We have provided Kayla's Kits to: Barrow, Jackson, Walton, Gwinnett, Athens-Clarke, Madison, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Newton, Rockdale, Forsyth, and Dekalb counties.

Kayla's Story

In the fall of 2008, this project was started after Jessica became best friends with Kayla, a foster child.
