What screams "pumpkin pie" like bats, fall, and Victorian era goth styling? Well, this character is meant to embody all those things. He is just the latest in my endless journey to anthropomorphize food. Here I believe I've finally stuck the right balance of food, human, and animal- all in one character!
Below are just a few of the sketches and concepts that I ran through to make what you see above. He wasn't even always a Pumpkin Pie. I started with Black pudding, because I wanted a food that was black, to really sell "goth" and "darkness". But along the way I realized you can still be goth and have a spectrum of colors and food. And I realized I wanted my character embody a more Halloween or Autumn spirit, so pumpkin pie it was! In between the black budding and the pumpkin pie phase their was also a phase where I was going to make him black licorice. I still think these foods hold potential to be their own characters, and could even be great friends!
Each of the drawings below are examples of some fun light art that could be in a child's illustrated book. This is just to show my range of talent.
