In the days before digital signage and big printing presses, people used to hand-dye patterns on cloth to convey information. This place is a dyeing factory about graphic design in the old days.
昔、デジタルサイネージも大きな印刷ができる機械もなかった時代、情報を伝える媒体として人は布に手で柄や文字を染め、布を外にかけて使っていた。この工場は今でも昔ながらの方法でグラフィックデザインを形にしている工場だ。
Walking around Kyoto, you will probably still see noren in front of stores and curtains hanging over the gates of temples. You can actually see the factory where they are dyed for yourself.
京都のまちを歩いていると、お店の前にかかるのれんや、お寺の門にかかっている幕などを目にするだろう。それらがどのように染められているのかを見学することができるのがこの工場だ。
You probably have never thought about how they are dyed. In fact, they are dyed by skilled craftsmen, one by one, using a brush.

Hi, I am Yuki, the visitor relations manager at this dyehouse. Studio Visit is available anytime except Sundays, but must be discussed with you depending on the factory's operating conditions.
Please contact me at least one day in advance before you come.
The earlier you contact us, the easier it will be for us to adjust our schedule and the more likely we will be able to accommodate you.

Shopping for Kyoto souvenirs?
This dye factory has a gallery and store where many of our dye works are displayed.
If you would like to visit here just for shopping, of course we welcome you. Because many of our works are one-of-a-kind and we don't put them on any online store, so we would be happy if you could see them.
If you come here just to shop, there is no studio visit fee, but please contact YUKI at least one day in advance before you come, because this is not a regular store that you can come in anytime.
京都土産のお買い物ですか？
この工場に併設されたギャラリー兼ショップには、一点ものの作品など、ネットショップには載らない作品・グッズなどがたくさん。何があるかはその時次第。
お買い物のみのご訪問は見学料はいただきません。ただ、稼働中の工場内に入っていただく関係上、ご訪問のご希望は前日までにYukiまで。
