Fabric Upcycling Workshop

As a matter of course, dyeing factories inevitably produce scraps of cloth. We try to avoid it, but it is difficult to reduce it to zero.

These scraps are not problem fabrics, but very beautiful new fabrics, some of which are even high quality silks.

染物工場からはどうしても布の端切れが出てしまう。それらは努力して削減しようとはするが、ゼロにはならない。中には何の問題もない美しい絹の布も…。

We work with local art students to give them new value as works of art.

We make very large pieces and sell them to hotels and offices in Kyoto. You make a piece that fits in your suitcase and take it home to display.

私たちが作品作りをする場合は大きな作品を作ることが多い。あなたの場合は、旅行に持ってきたスーツケースに入るサイズのキャンバスを使い、家に持ち帰って作品を飾ろう。

We cut cloth and use it as art material. We use it along with acrylic paint to hold them in place when we apply the fabric to the canvas. The cut cloth looks like brush strokes. When torn into small pieces, they become threads, which may be expressed as lines.

The artwork thus created is an abstract painting.

布はカットすることにより画材になる。私たちはそれらをアクリル絵の具と一緒に使うことでキャンバスの上に固定する。カットされた布はまるで筆のストロークのようだし、糸になるまで小さく裂くと、それは線としての表現に使える。このようにしてできる作品は抽象画になる。

Since it is an abstract painting, you can use shapes and colors to abstractly express the feelings you are experiencing during your journey. For example, this work of art represents a pleasant breeze in May by one of our guests.

抽象画であれば、あなたが旅の途中に感じている気持ちを表現しやすい。例えばこれは、あるお客様が描いた、５月の気持ちいい風を表現した作品だ。

If you are a craft lover, you can also use scraps to make cushion covers.

もしあなたが手芸好きなら、かわりにクッションカバーの作品作りに挑戦してもらうこともできる。

Both of these experiences will take two to three hours.

どちらも２～３時間の、手を動かしているうちについ夢中になってしまう、楽しいワークショップだ。
