レア度：たまにみられる
形態：鳥の嘴のような貝殻をもつ巻貝の一種。裏側にはスリッパの覆い部分のように、軟体部を収納するスペースがある。これにちなんで、英名をSlipper Shellという。表面には褐色の縞模様があり、内面はべっ甲色で鉱物のメノウのような質感である。貝殻の輪郭は付着する基質の形状に応じて変化する。
生息域：北アメリカ原産で、日本、韓国、香港などに外来種として分布し、潮間帯から水深30mの固い基質に付着して生息する。葛登支ではヒメエゾボラなどの貝殻についているのをよく見かけるが、数は少ない。
生態：他種の貝殻に付着し、しばしば複数個体で積み重なる (Hoagland 1978; Von Tungeln & Pernet 2017)。本種は雄性先熟を示し、性転換によって雌となる (Coe 1942)。積み重なっているときは、一番下の大型個体が雌である (Von Tungeln & Pernet 2017)。このため、先住の雌の存在によって性転換のタイミングは遅れ、単独のときより大きなサイズで雌となる (Collin et al. 2005)。雌は外套腔に卵嚢を保護しており、卵嚢数は大型の雌ほど多い (Son 2003)。子は浮遊幼生としてふ化する (Hoagland 1978; Son 2003)。
その他： 函館湾では繁殖が確認されており、ヒメエゾボラに大量に付着して漁業者を困らせている (山崎ら 2009)。
