Writing about a teacher fostering animals was a worthwhile experience. The teacher was helpful, answering any follow-up questions, had us visit her house to take pictures, and even offered a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. Her assistance gave us great information and pictures of the pets. I was in awe when our page was done on the first night of production.
Focus - February 5, 2025
For this month, I challenged myself by combining several artworks into a dominant infographic. I also added some context to digest the graphics better. I kept track that none of the facts got repeated, allowing the page more depth. The page lets others recognize my hard work, makes their page better to compete, and votes for me to win Best A&E Story and Best Page Design for the month.
Focus - November 22, 2024
I have never been in the sports section, so I was challenged at every angle while building the story. I didn’t know how to design a sports page, so I had to research for inspiration. Then, I had one chance to take good photos, because it was the their last home game. Gladly, it all paid off when I won Focus Excellence, Best Sports Story, and Best Page Design for the month.
Focus - October 25, 2024
Inspired by last month's toxic relationship page, I used a similar style to design. The risky layout caused me to redesign the page at least five times. I didn't stop worrying about how it would turn out, and edit every little mistake I could find until it was presentable. The change from a typical news story into an interactive piece, allows me to win Best Infographic and Production Wizard for the month.
Focus - March 8, 2024
I was glad to have one of my brainstorming topics running as an actual story. Covering this story was the most delightful working process, because of thoughtful communication. We divided the workload effectively, actively engaged in making changes to the page, and won first place for Feature Page or Spread from MIPA Awards, Best Feature Story, and Best Infographic for the month.
Focus - February 2, 2024
I have only celebrated the Lunar New Year, so I was scared that my point of view wouldn't fit in the tone. But then, I was glad to see another perspective on Spanish tradition. Suddenly, I felt included and put more effort into illustrating for each perspective. There was another artist on my team, but I didn't let that stop me from drawing cute mini versions of us and applying emotion to the page's lively tone.
