Katherine Twilla (b. 2006) is an exceptional tuba performer, multimedia artist, and college student. She is currently Enrolled at East Tennessee State University where she studies Instrumental Performance alongside of participating in the prestigious Bert C. Bach Fine and Performing Arts Scholars Program
Beginning her tuba journey in June of 2019, she has worked tirelessly to become the best musician she can be. Participating in as many programs as she possibly could. These include but are not limited to, the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra, The Tennessee Wind Symphony, and The Wallace Memorial Brass Septet. She has proven herself as an excellent Solo and Chamber performer receiving several scholarships and recognition awards for her skills on the tuba.
Since attending college, she has worked to become both a better musician as well as a better artist. She delves into philosophical questions such as 'What does it mean to be a musician?' and 'How can I show myself through my art?' She is grateful for the support of her peers, professors, and family throughout her musical journey.
Katherine's journey with disability started in December of 2025 with her diagnosis of Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. She has since become an advocate for disabled artists such as herself, recognizing and calling out Inaccessible infrastructure and systems in the art world. She takes meaning from her chronic illness and places it into her art.
Along with being an accomplished musician, she is also a professional photographer and multimedia artist. She can be found via Instagram @tubatwilla
