I am Associate Director of Research with the Humanities and Human Flourishing Project team in the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, I am leading the Art Museums for Well-Being research initiative.
I received my PhD in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2020. During my doctoral work, I studied topics related to music, aesthetic experiences, and creativity and personality, with an emphasis on what these phenomena look like in our everyday lives.
How do people interpret aesthetic experiences? People respond to the aesthetic experiences in many ways. I study specific aesthetic experiences, such as profound art experiences, and am currently examining how people approach and experience art in a museum context.
How does engagement with the arts contribute to individual flourishing? I study people's engagement with different art forms and the links between engagement and flourishing outcomes. I've examined this question both with in-person art engagement and digital forms of art appreciation.
What does psychology look like "in the wild" of our everyday lives? In a lot of my research, I examine creativity and the arts in people's everyday environments. Most often, I've used electronic experience sampling and daily diary techniques.
