This two-day lesson entailed students reflecting on their own identities and creating a product they deemed beneficial for their future selves regarding an issue they currently experience. This lesson was created in response to Ellen Gallagher's artwork, where she focuses on Afrofuturism. Through a class discussion and activity, the students learned about Afrofuturism and Gallagher's work. Taking this knowledge, students applied it to their inventions. Each student created a drawing, title, description, and cost of their invention. In the end, all the students' inventions were placed into a Futurist Catalog where they can "shop" their peers' creations.
