As a student, educator and parent, Kate believes strongly in the Suzuki method of music education. It is paramount that prospective families understand the basic philosophy and are willing to journey into the wonderful world of Suzuki lessons.
The Suzuki Method is a very special way to learn to play an instrument, and is based on the philosophies of Shinichi Suzuki, including:
- Mother-tongue approach: You will learn the piano or violin in the same way you learned to speak, by listening to and copying the environment around you.
- Importance of listening: Please make listening to the Suzuki CD a priority, as it helps to teach musicianship and technique.
- Parent-Teacher-Student Triangle: The parent is a key part of the equation! Parents are expected to attend every lesson and to be involved in daily practice with their child.
