What I have discovered thus far will be described through my ethical views, career connections, self-care, social justice, and emotional intelligence. Please use the provided menu to explore my experiences as a student, professional, and researcher.
& I intend to combine these three subjects in my academic career, agendas, and personal life.
What is mental wellness?
To me, mental wellness is a field in itself. I analyze how each area of an individual's life- including relationships, school, work, community, physical health, and trauma- impacts and is impacted by cognitive functioning, stress management, performance, and locus of control.
What is social-emotional growth?
I view social-emotional growth as the dynamic between one's community, groups, and interpersonal relationships and emotional intelligence. Think about how communication styles, generational trauma, and social batteries can shake a close relationship. I am fascinated by how these areas intersect, how manipulating one changes the other, and how I can provide future clients with a balanced perspective.
What is social justice?
My therapy acknowledges the influence that societal issues have on our personal and interpersonal wellness. I intend to help clients cope with these factors, as well as apply my understanding of psychology and social justice to my own life. I explore social justice more on this page.
I find that the more I learn, the less I know.
Research has become the unexpected heart of my personal and professional work. Perspective- context- is everything.
I have used the previous motivators, as well as psychological knowledge gained through work experience and programmatic learning at SNHU, to develop a professional mindset.
Specifically, I can apply social psychology concepts to enhance performance in the professional setting. Considering group thinking, cultural differences, bias, locus of control, social identity, demographic differences, and discrimination all help me work on a team and be a more effective leader. Personal exploration of these concepts and my own identity helps me amplify what motivates my own efforts. Emotional intelligence is critical to both. Finally, I can use my understanding of family systems, trauma, social justice, childhood development, and disorders to be aware of the challenges that each person faces in productive and personal settings.
My professional mindset has been further promoted by developing emotional intelligence, ethical training, and leadership skills. Emotional intelligence is characterized by the ability to identify, describe, process, and manipulate the emotions of oneself and others. In a positive context, this is beneficial to the leader, the therapist, and the individual. Ethical training has helped me apply psychological skills with regard to safety and legality. This extends beyond the workplace, thus bringing a professional mindset into aspects of my personal life as well. Leadership skills are imperative to the therapist, who acts as a leader and advocate for the client.
Finally, I have embraced soft skills that have allowed me to thrive in a rapidly changing professional environment. The skills that have best supported my success include adaptability, multicultural sensitivity, integrity, active listening, organization, and having a growth mindset. Adaptability fosters resilience. Integrity, the quality of consistent honesty and reliability, fosters leadership. Multicultural sensitivity is an asset to developing positive work environments and teams. Having a growth mindset supports the curiosity, motivation, and passion that drive success.
