Caragan Festival was also a cultural celebration in Mabalacat City, Pampanga, named after a legendary Aeta chieftain Haring Caragan. The festival honored the city's indigenous roots with street dancing and cultural shows. As of 2023, the festival was renamed the Balakat Festival to reflect the city's name origin (from the balakat tree).
Caragan (or Kalagan / Kagan) refers to an indigenous group in Mindanao, Philippines. The term “Caragan” was the Spanish name used during colonial times. The Kalagan people live mainly in the Davao Gulf area — parts of Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, and nearby provinces.
