FACTS ABOUT FLEAS

Fleas are a common problem in homes, especially those with cats and dogs. Fleas are especially carried through hair. Fleas lay eggs on your pet’s body. And later  fall off and can become hidden in carpets, rugs, bedding or gaps between floorboards.

SIGNS OF FLEAS

• Can you see fleas on ground and they appear reddish-brown and about 2mm long?

• If you have an animal may become some discomfort and is constantly scratching or biting their fur.

• Check the hind-quarters of your dog or the head and neck of your cat.

• Carefully look at your pet’s skin for fine black droppings.

• Flea dirt on pet bedding, carpets or rugs.

HOW TO IDENTIFY FLEA BITES

Flea bites often appear as tiny red spots on the skin. Look for tiny dark spots, surrounded by a reddened area with much less swelling. Common areas to receive flea bites are on feet or lower legs. Cat or dog fleas will jump from pets, carpets, bedding or furnishings to feed.

HOW TO GET RID OF FLEAS

• Empty your vacuum cleaner whenever you hoover around.

• Groom your pets regularly. Bath their bedding after every 2 weeks at high temperatures.

• Speak to your pet doctors whenever you see signs.
