I joined the school in 2017, which was the greatest opportunity in my professional career up to that point. I started as a part-time teacher for the High School, and in that first year, I was responsible for 6th grade, electives for 6th & 7th, 8th & 9th, 10th & 11th, and the school's rock band.
It was a year of immense learning because I not only learned about working in a large organization but also about myself as a person and my students. That year was vital for me because I realized why I had chosen to become a teacher and discovered that one of the most fulfilling aspects of my profession was the ability to direct ensembles. That year, our band placed second in the school's festival and we generally achieved good results, performing at various internal school events.
The following year, I became a full-time teacher, teaching grades 7 to 12 (the nomenclature changed), and I continued to oversee the band and choir, which performed at both internal and external events.
The internal events we supported included:
Weekly ecclesiastical celebrations
Parent's Day
May Day
Thanksgiving Day
Angel Show
Farewell
Getting to Know Us (an event for parents interested in enrolling their children in the school)
Marymount Cup Openning
BAMUN opening ceremony
Graduation
''La Misión''
And other events
External events where we participated with the band KM7 and won included:
Inter school Music Festival Events
2nd place Altamira International School festival (2017)
2nd place KCP School Music Festival (2021)
In addition, I had the opportunity to work with my music team colleague on the composition, arrangement, musical direction, and recording of the "SHERR SONG," which was launched as the anthem for the school's pilot project focused on values-based learning.
