My project explores the meaning of being caught in between two cultural identities and the problems and fears that arise from trying to fit into these identities. It is based on my personal experience of growing up as a Filipino-American. I hope people will be able to relate to my story and if not, I hope it can broaden people’s views and acceptance.

For my capstone project, I wanted to portray the subconscious feelings of trying to find yourself from within. Throughout my first year with KAPWA, I've understood that I am not alone in my feelings of not being close enough to my Filipina blood heritage. Discussions of us feeling like too far of a relative to relate to our roots, but yet, we love our culture and proud to be a part of the API community in America. I visualized this in-between space as the silver lining of identity. Sometimes, we are desperate for an answer for ourselves, but continue to fall short of our own and other people's expectations. As I get older, I realize not everything is black or white, but that it's normal to not exactly have an answer for your identity all the time.

For my Capstone Project, I decided to record a podcast discussing the different aspects of mental health and why it’s important. I was interested in researching how deeply rooted trauma can affect you, and how that coincides with healing your inner child. I also chose to touch on how your mental health can affect your relationship with your self-esteem, physical health, and relationships with others, and so much more. I reflect back on my own mental health and ways that have helped me cope with anxiety and depression.

For my project, I plan on providing a google slides format to represent the essay I will be writing about mental health during quarantine. I have already interviewed some people on how they go about their routines ever since the pandemic began. I want to have in-depth explanations as to why we are affected by quarantine or how it can impact each and every one of us. Alongside that, I would like to give tips and talk about how we can get better through this time.

In Asian culture, being diagnosed with a mental illness is a two-sided coin; one side portrays the enervating struggles toward liberation and recovery, and the other side represents detainment caused by paralyzing stigmas. The devastating effects of Mental Health Stigma accentuate the importance of unraveling the roots of the issue, which are the concept of family shame, the Model Minority Myth, and lack of knowledge and outdated, religion-based views towards mental health illness, in order to formulate two approaches to eradicate this shameworthy concept.

Throughout history, the portrayal of the "dirty," "diseased" immigrant that forces their way into a western country has inflected the general populous's minds for generations. Propaganda such as this has continued with generations of fear-mongering which thoroughly convinced people that immigrants have a negative agenda. My goal in this project is to spread awareness of the scapegoating and dehumanization used against immigrants for centuries, mainly focusing on Asian-Americans to correlate how this cycle has repeated itself again.

Surrounding the class theme of "Tangled Stories: History & Homeplace,” our tangled stories shape our cultural identity and who we are today. For my project, I am highlighting and showcasing Asian & Pacific Islander representation on YouTube. API creators such as AJ Rafael and Wong Fu Productions allowed me to enter a whole new world in the mainstream media that I have never seen before and I now want to share the API representation that I was introduced to when I was growing up. Through this project, I want to amplify the community’s voices and raise awareness about what is currently going on within the API community and end the rise in anti-AAPI hate in the U.S.

For my Capstone project, I wanted to focus on my peers and the amazing learning community that I was able to join just this semester. Immediately, I realized that this was a space I could call home. We all support each other and encourage one another to broaden our minds and hearts, even pushing each other to go outside our comfort zones. By compiling ten interviews I got to hold with both generations of KAPWA, I hope to convey just how beneficial a learning community is to everyone involved.

I plan to incorporate my personal views, the Asian hate crimes we are facing right now, past issues we have faced, and a big part of how easy it would be for everyone to just treat people how you'd want to be treated (golden rule) all into a poem. This poem shows the simplicity of the actions of others towards each other giving a meaningful message across in the format of a poem that hopes to speak to others in a unique way. Also following with a reflection essay and description of the process in creating the poem.

This is a podcast created to create consciousness on the Feminist Movement, to inform what women go through daily in Mexico and how the movement teaches us to help each other to survive through the violence and insecurity. It will also address gender roles we break as we grow up and the different types of encouragement of them in families.

Allies need to be more informed. We are very hit or miss when it comes to uplifting voices. Allies shouldn't be confused with what is expected of us and we need to do better. There are great allies who are outspoken when it comes to uplifting voices. I want to raise the bar where more people meet that expectation. Activism should be a part of you not just something in your bio. I want to find from the source what is expected of allies.

For this project I want to focus on answering the question "What is home?" is it a place, a person, a feeling? I Intend to do so by talking to my family members and looking back at the different homes I've grown in throughout the years. I want to talk about how Home is a feeling. Feeling welcome and understood, and like you can be authentically yourself without being judged.

Representation in the media is a constant struggle for POCs. In recent years, the AAPI community has seen an increase in representation in film and TV series. From the release of "Crazy Rich Asians" to "Raya and the Last Dragon," AAPIs finally feel seen. However, there are still issues with how AAPI are being portrayed and how it is affecting the community. In my project, I will be covering the positives and negatives of AAPI Representation in film and on TV.

The podcast I am making 'Home - A Feeling', is a discussion between me and my best friend Alex. Growing up with unique circumstances, I feel as if this conversation is going to be of interest to many individuals. Together, we discuss what it means to have a home and what home truly is to us. We cover topics such as mental health, immigration, identity, and many more throughout the podcast.

Drift is a comic that talks about how it feels to not be able to remember parts of a traumatic event in your life. This can be a difficult thing to deal with, and not many people understand how it can happen, or how it feels to those that have to go through this.

When you are a part of America’s growing rate of those suffering from a mental illness, What do you do when your support system fails you? What happens when you're in a crisis and you're afraid to call for help because you’re afraid of getting SHOT? In her project “Mental crisis should NOT end in bloodshed”, Michelle Flores talks of the many failing support systems for those going through a mental crisis- what it means to the mentally ill and what we can do to support those in need.
by Nara Sagale
My project is simply about my Home and how it was shaped/formed by those I love.
