SEED Intern, Stanford GSB & Hasiru Dala Innovations
Domains: ESG, Waste Management, Sustainability, Data Analytics
Part of GSB's SEED Program to empower MSMEs in developing economies of Asia and Africa. I worked at Hasiru Dala Innovations, an emerging waste management startup in Bangalore. They are involved in end-to-end waste collection, segregation, and processing, based on their "Inclusive Circularity" model to empower waste-pickers.
Problem: They wish to send actionable and insightful reports to their clients, highlighting the environmental and social benefits of partnering with HDI. They also wish to comply with ESG regulations, not just in India but in Europe as well, where some of their future clients may be located. I was tasked with creating a model in which their team enters data on different kinds of wastes collected, and the output would be a report containing emission reduction values, and other KPIs necessary for ESG reporting.
I developed an automated spreadsheet that generates and provides ESG KPIs in terms of GHG emissions savings and the social impact of HDI. This uses Javascript in the back end to generate a report presentation.
I also created a Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions tracker to calculate and report the overall carbon footprint of their and their clients’ activities. Again, this would generate a report presentation that can be shared with the public, stakeholders and government.
Care was taken to make these models auditable - using scientific data from Government organizations and peer-reviewed papers, and using official methods given by credible institutions like GHG Protocol.
Finally, I was involved in knowledge transfer so that the team can use the model internally.

Designed the outer casing for Respyr, world’s first non-invasive device for routine health check-ups at home.
Ensured that the design was ergonomic, modular and catered to internal dimensional and volume constraints for the electronics and sensors.

Project Title - Development of Four-Legged Robot. Selected as a JASSO Scholar for a research internship at HU.
Simulated the hopping motion of a one-legged, biped and quadruped robot on Open Dynamics Engine. GitHub.
Performed a parametric study of the control algorithms on the one-legged hopping robot’s stability and motion.

Coordinated with the New Product Development division in the design of sphincterotomes (a catheter used in ERCP).
Examined the design input process and applied it to innovative solutions to address some current user needs.
Drafted 2 invention disclosures (ID) for Autotome to reduce kinks and improve bowing by 25%. One was accepted for a patent.
ID-1: Using the concept of pneumatic actuation to bow the tip of the catheter.
ID-2: Insert multiple small slots along the portion of the catheter that experiences compression during bowing - in order to increase the bowing angle and reduce bending force. This ID was converted into a patent (published in Sept 2023).
