NEW LOOK ROVERS UP FOR THE FFA CUP CHALLENGE

Cup fever is back again as KPR embark on yet another FFA Cup journey. After narrowly missing out on progression last season to a Pine Hills side 2 divisions higher who managed to beat KPR in extra time, this time, its the men from Kangaroo Point who find themselves as the higher placed club and expected to get the result on the evening.

Rovers are to face Capital League 3 outfit Logan City Kings Football Club in the 2nd qualifying round at the home of Football Queensland, Meakin Park. The venue not usually Logan City's home field may be of some advantage to KPR with the home side also having to adapt just as quickly to the slick surface as rovers making for an exciting game in prospect.

Coach McNamee urged and encouraged all the Piney fans, friends and family to make the trip down the M1 to support the new look rovers squad in their first competitive fixture of the 2018 season. "This is our first real competitive game as a new squad together, and the lads have been working hard towards getting ready for this particular game. The effort on the training field has been faultless, and Saturday night will hopefully show how far we have come since building the new squad in the new year."

The reserves will play out a friendly game at 5pm which will be a curtain-raiser with the cup tie scheduled for kick off at 7pm, Extra time and penalties will be needed if both teams cannot be separated on the night.

FAVOURABLE FIXTURE LIST FOR PROMOTED ROVERS

The eagerly awaited fixture list for KPR's 2018 Cap 2 campaign was announced last week, and it saw KPR host 4 of the 6 opening rounds at Raymond Park.

Opening day will see the piney boys take the short trip across the bridge to McCook Park to take on Newmarket on Friday 23rd of Feb 8:30pm kick off.

The second round starts the run of 3 home games on the bounce when KPR host old foes in AC Carina. In what will no doubt be a big test for McNamee's men, Carina have been tipped as the early title favourites boasting a talented squad with a large number of ex Rovers now plying their trade at the dolphins. The highly anticipated fixture will be the perfect way to prove to the league that the men from piney are more than capable of being in this league.

Round 3 will see Rovers host Tarragindi after a swap of venue while Esher st goes through its final phases of field maintenance, while the 4th round will see the tigers from Slacks Creek make their way up the M1 to Raymond Park.

Another stern test awaits KPR in the 5th round as they travel to Cap 2 regulars Westside Grovely on the 24th of March.

Round 6 will see the return of the Mapri brothers to Raymond Park, this time in charge of their new club Clairvaux where the majority of last years Grand Final winning Cap 4 squad now play. This looks to well and truly be match of the round and will put the rookie coach McNamee against last years former head coach Russell Mapri.

Coach McNamee was quick to make comment about the upcoming fixture list saying "This is the perfect start for us to bed into the new league. Home advantage is going to be pivotal in our success this season, and we really look forward to hosting Carina and Calirvaux games at home in particular which I'm sure will pull rather decent crowds."

KPR EARN PROMOTION BEFORE ROUND 1

With the unfortunate news that Pine Rivers Athletic Football Club have withdrawn their Capital Squad for 2018, Football Brisbane have therefore had to reshuffle the team lists contesting Capital League Football.

Jimboomba United Football Club thankfully declined the oppourtuity to remain in Capital 2 and as the ranking system works with Football Brisbane, KPR were the next in line. The club had no hesitation in claiming their spot in Cap 2 especially after the bittersweet Grand Final victory last year after failing on promotion due to goal difference.

Coach McNamee had these thoughts on the decision, "This is a massive opportunity for the club and just reward for last year’s successes.

We wouldn't have accepted the promotion if we didn't believe in the current playing group and what they can achieve this season.

It will be a stern test, but one we are looking forward to and a league we know we can test ourselves in".

NEW SEASON, NEW HEAD COACH AT KPR

Kangaroo Point Rovers are pleased to announce that Julien McNamee has been appointed head coach of the Capital 3 squad for 2018.

Julien has been the guide from behind the scenes for many years, and is now looking to shape the club from the front. In what will be his 1st senior management role, Julien will look to make immediate impact in the reformed league after the club narrowly missed out on promotion by the way of goal difference alone in 2017.

A key message from the new head coach was one of stability and growth on a fantastic club culture, as he sets out to continue to develop Kangaroo Point Rovers footprint in the Football Brisbane and local community.

Pre-season dates and trials will be announced within the next week, with any new or returning players interested to contact Julien through coach@kangaroopointrovers.com.au
